Thirty Nine Articles

The doctrinal statement of the Church of England and, officially, what Anglicans believe. The Thirty- Nine Articles were forged during the Reformation period, beginning in 1536 under Henry VIII with Ten Articles, revised to Forty-Two Articles under Edward VI, revised in 1563 under Elizabeth I to thirty-eight and finally, in 1571, to thirty-nine. Thomas Cranmer and Nicholas Ridley played significant parts in their development. Matthew Parker guided their final shape under Elizabeth.
