The Venerable Bede (C.673—735)

Bede is well known to historians as the author of A History of the English Church and People, and is our primary source for such important early events as the martyrdom of St Alban, the founding of the church at Canterbury by Augustine, the establishment of the monastery at Iona by St Columba and the proceedings of the Synod of Whitby. His references to London unfortunately are few, mainly citing the appointment of bishops.
