Erasmus Desiderius/Erasmus of Rotterdam (1466-1536)

Dutch Humanist and the most brilliant mind of his age. His Greek New Testament (the ‘Textus Receptus’) was a primary source for the translation work of both Martin Luther and William Tyndale. Though a Catholic, he is said to have ‘laid the egg that Luther hatched’. Ironically, he was a great friend of Sir Thomas More, who was one of Tyndale’s worst enemies.
