An organization whose purpose is ‘to encourage the wider circulation of the Holy Scriptures without note or comment’, the BFBS was founded in London in 1804 by members of the Clapham Sect and other evangelicals. Today, known simply as The Bible Society, it prints and circulates Bibles in hundreds of world languages.
